Activist shot dead in marketplace
Parvinder Singh Jhota was shot dead in broad daylight at a medical store in a busy marketplace in Mansa town on October 13.
Family protests for 22 days
Jhota's family and the joint action committee sat on protest in Mansa seeking justice. They ended their twenty two day agitation after meeting with Punjab government representatives on November fourth.
Post-mortem completed in Chandigarh
Following a post-mortem at PGIMER in Chandigarh on Saturday, November seventh, twenty twenty-six, Jhota's body was taken to his native place for last rites.
Cremation held on Diwali Day
Jhota's father Bhim Singh said the body would be taken to their residence first, then cremated between twelve and one pm on Diwali Day at Jhota's fields on Chakerian Road in Mansa.
“We will take the body to our residence first and thereafter, between 12 and 1 pm, Jhota will be cremated on Diwali Day”
Father calls for youth pledge
On Saturday, November seventh, Jhota's father called upon the youth of Punjab to pledge against drug abuse while speaking to reporters in Chandigarh.
Murder triggers political row
The murder, which occurred while Jhota hosted a Facebook Live session, triggered protests and a political slugfest in Punjab.
Government agrees to demands
The Punjab government handed the probe to the CBI, suspended a station house officer, deputy superintendent of police and drug inspector.
Committee demands resignations
The joint action committee, also known as the Parminder Singh Jhota Insaaf Action Committee, pressed for resignations of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav over the killing.
