Congress attacks BJP over temple theft

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the BJP of silence over the Ram temple donation theft case on October nineteenth, twenty twenty-six, demanding accountability for those responsible.

Theft discovered and SIT formed

The massive theft at the Lord Ram Temple in Ayodhya came to light on June fourth, twenty twenty-six. Nine days later, on June thirteenth, the Uttar Pradesh government formed a special investigation team.

Footage shows repeated theft

The theft was captured on camera one hundred five times. Footage recorded between April twenty-seventh and June fifth, twenty twenty-six, shows staff members hiding bundles of currency notes.

SIT clears senior officials

On August seventeenth, the Home Department submitted its final report to the Trust, which granted a clean chit to Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, former general secretary and another senior official.

Ramesh questions investigation scope

Jairam Ramesh asked why key trust functionaries including Champat Rai and Anil Mishra were made witnesses rather than suspects, and why the actual theft amount remains undisclosed.

Treasurer's role questioned

Ramesh said Govind Giri, the treasurer, should have known about fund inflows and outflows but claimed on July seventh that Champat Rai had no role in the theft.

Low-level staff arrested, seniors free

An FIR was registered on June twenty-fifth and eight individuals involved in counting were arrested the following day. However, no former office-bearer of the Trust was named in the FIR.

Congress demands Supreme Court supervision

Ramesh said the Congress demands the entire matter be investigated independently, impartially and transparently under Supreme Court supervision, with full accounting of offerings made public.

Ramesh invokes Lord Ram's warning

Ramesh said Lord Ram signalled displeasure by causing the BJP candidate's defeat in the twenty twenty-four Lok Sabha polls from Ayodhya, a warning the party failed to grasp.

Modi and Adityanath remain silent

More than four and a half months after the theft came to light, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have remained silent on the matter.

Congress's Hindi message on theft

In a Hindi post on X, Ramesh wrote: Chanda chori, Aastha dhokha. Ram ke naam se satta paayi, chanda chori par chuppi chaayi. The BJP will meet its downfall due to this sin.

“'Chanda chori, Aastha dhokha. Ram ke naam se satta paayi, chanda chori par chuppi chaayi'”

Citizens must hold thieves accountable

Ramesh said it now rests with citizens to hold those who stole donations while blinded by arrogance of power accountable and ensure they are punished.
