YSRCP files no nominations
The YSR Congress Party did not file a single nomination for Kamalapuram Municipality elections in Kadapa district as the deadline ended on Sunday.
TDP expects easy victory
With only independents in the fray, TDP's chairperson candidate G. Swapna and councillor nominees were hopeful of a cakewalk in Kamalapuram Municipality.
Why YSRCP stayed away

Kamalapuram MLA Putha Krishna Chaitanya Reddy said rivals found it unviable to focus energy and funds on the municipality, as it will come into TDP's fold.
“The rivals, perhaps, found it unviable to focus their energy and funds on the municipality, as it will any way come into our fold, thanks to the people's unwavering support.”
Violence elsewhere in district
Unlike Kamalapuram, the nomination deadline in Pulivendula and other places saw violent incidents. District police booked cases against sixty-three people, mostly YSRCP members.
Senior leaders arrested
District police placed former Deputy Chief Minister S.B. Amzath Basha under house arrest in Kadapa and Member of Parliament Y.S. Avinash Reddy in Pulivendula.
TDP leaders also detained
TDP Pulivendula in-charge B. Tech Ravi and party district president C. Bhupesh Reddy were also placed under house arrest on the nomination deadline.
Amzath Basha denies wrongdoing
Former Deputy Chief Minister S.B. Amzath Basha accused ruling party leaders of assaulting YSRCP cadres with sticks and rods, and criticised police for remaining a mute spectator.
The headline
The YSR Congress Party filed no nominations for Kamalapuram Municipality elections, leaving the Telugu Desam Party's candidates facing only independent challengers and expecting an easy victory.
