Body found near Pambla dam

The Karimanal police found charred remains of an eighteen-year-old girl near the Pambla dam in Idukki on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Police identified the victim as Nithya, a resident of Bodinayakanur in Tamil Nadu.

Arrest made within 12 hours

Police arrested nineteen-year-old Nishanth, a resident of Vattappara near Rajakkad, in connection with the murder. Idukki District Police Chief A. Naseem said the death was a case of murder, not an accident.

Couple met on social media

Nishanth and Nithya got to know each other on social media. Her parents had lodged a complaint with police about the relationship. Both families later agreed the two would marry once Nishanth turned twenty-one.

He blocked her, she called back

Nishanth later blocked Nithya's number and severed contact. The girl recently called him from another phone and insisted on meeting. He asked her to come to Poopara on October 11 to discuss their marriage plans.

That night, Nishanth transported the body to Pambla, doused it in petrol, and set it on fire.The charred body was discovered in an isolated area near the Kerala State Electricity Board quarters at Pambla dam.
