Undercover investigation finds Reform candidates expressing racist views

Reform UK announced on Wednesday it has reported ITV to police following an undercover documentary that revealed party councillors and candidates using racist language.

What the investigation showed

The ITV exposé showed Black children being referred to as animals. One Reform activist said asylum seekers should be put in concentration camps. Another member said his area had become infested with Asian families.

Reform's legal action

Zia Yusuf, Reform's home affairs spokesperson, said the party is reporting individual journalists and ITV's board to police for breaching fraud and elections law. Reform will also pursue civil proceedings against them.

“Journalists are supposed to report the news. These ones set out to create it.”

Yusuf claimed an undercover ITV reporter who became a Reform press officer had doctored her passport. He said two undercover reporters who campaigned in Portsmouth were paid to canvass, which is illegal.

Labour calls for stronger action

At Prime Minister's Questions, Andy Burnham said Reform has not taken enough action to tackle racism. He called for the firmest action from all parties to root out racist and discriminatory politics.

“That should unite us all in this House, and we are still waiting to see the right level of action from the party opposite.”
