Schoolgirl attacked with chainsaw

A fourteen-year-old Class ten student from Andhra Pradesh was attacked with a chainsaw on October thirty-first. She is now fighting for her life at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru after undergoing surgery.

Attacker was known to the victim

The twenty-one-year-old accused was a relative and acquaintance of the girl. Police say he knew whom he was attacking and it was not a random choice.

“He knew whom he was attacking. It was not a random choice.”

Two years of unwanted contact

The accused had been in contact with the girl for nearly two years. Although she was a minor, he was romantically inclined towards her, police said.

Family intervened, he became a stalker

When the girl's family learned of his advances, they told him to stop and told the girl not to speak to him. After she stopped communicating, he turned into a stalker and followed her closely.

He tracked her movements for days

Police say the accused tracked the girl's movements in the days before the attack. With help from a friend, he monitored her location and movements closely.

Chainsaw bought four days before

The accused purchased a chainsaw in Anantapur town with a friend's help four days before the attack on October thirty-first, police told The Indian Express.

Arrested after police shooting

Police traced the accused to Atmakur forest. He was shot below the waist after allegedly attacking a police officer with a knife. Six rounds were fired after a warning shot.

Victim's friend also severely injured

The girl's fourteen-year-old friend also sustained severe injuries in the attack. She is being treated at a multi-speciality hospital in Anantapur district.
