Anthropic launches message threads beta
Anthropic launched message threads in public beta for its API on Monday. Agents building on Claude no longer resend the whole conversation with each request.
How threads cut response time by 35%
Agents send the full conversation once, then only new messages plus Claude's last reply ID. On requests of five hundred thousand to one million tokens, wait time fell by about thirty-five percent.
Threads save time, not money

Claude still reads the whole conversation on every turn. Prices and rate limits stay unchanged. Threads expire five minutes after the last request, so developers must keep their own copy.
