Four AI agents beat Minecraft

Four agents running on Google's Gemini 4 Argon defeated the Ender Dragon, Minecraft's final boss, without human help in 27 hours and 14 minutes.

“This is the first end-to-end autonomous completion of Minecraft by AI agents, achieved using only the standard Mineflayer library without pre-scouted seeds or other game-specific tools written by humans.”

The agents wrote code, not keystrokes

Each agent controlled a player through Mineflayer, an open-source library for Minecraft bots. To act, an agent wrote a short JavaScript program and read back its position, health and inventory.

Four agents, four specialised roles

janesick made tools and found the stronghold. gyldenia gathered food and supplies. auratian lit the Nether portal. bulicame built shelters and landed the final blow. They shared coordinates and recovered each other's items after deaths.

The dragon fight took 14 hours

About 21 hours in, auratian discovered ten crystals on pillars kept healing the dragon. The team stacked dirt to reach them, destroyed all ten over four hours and 40 minutes, and the dragon died 39…

The cost and the limits

The run processed about 1.35 billion input tokens, costing roughly $520 at introductory price or $1,040 at standard price. The agents died 605 times, wrote 2,783 programs and swapped 229 chat messages.

Google plans broader AI applications

The agents played on Easy difficulty with Mineflayer providing exact block and creature data. Google DeepMind plans to use the same setup for coding, science and robotics work.
