OpenAI models arrive on Google Cloud
OpenAI is bringing GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna to Google Cloud. They are rolling out now in private preview in Google Cloud's Model Garden, with general availability coming in the coming weeks.
OpenAI now on all three major clouds
The deal puts OpenAI's models on all three of the biggest US cloud providers. Amazon Web Services began hosting them in April, after Microsoft's exclusive licence ended.
Google offers all three leading models
Google now calls itself the only hyperscale cloud provider that offers all three leading closed models. Its platform already offers Anthropic's Claude next to its own Gemini.
Google must compete with OpenAI
Gemini now has to win customers with OpenAI sitting right next to it, analyst Mike Leone told Axios. Cloud providers usually take a cut of model sales on their platforms.
