SpaceX secures forty billion in GPU debt

SpaceX has closed forty billion dollars in debt financing to buy graphics processing units for AI systems, Elon Musk announced on X on Sunday, October twenty-fifth.

“SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we're investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue.”

Musk credits Starlink and launch revenue

Musk said SpaceX's investment-grade credit rating and revenue from Starlink and rocket launches helped it secure the financing. The Financial Times reported Apollo Global Management was expected to lead the package.

Debt markets shut out neocloud companies

Debt markets shut out neocloud companies

Musk warned that debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for companies without substantial revenue outside AI data centres. Over two hundred neocloud companies rent out AI computing capacity.

“Debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn't have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers.”

Neoclouds face consolidation and failure

Musk predicted that many of the over two hundred neocloud companies would fail or merge, though he named no specific targets or timeframe. SpaceX will not acquire any of them.

The bottom line

SpaceX raised forty billion dollars in debt to buy AI chips, citing its investment-grade rating and Starlink revenue as key to securing the financing.
