Bose joins Auracast club

A firmware update for the four hundred forty-nine dollar Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2 adds support for Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast as beta features.
First Bose headphones with the tech
The flagship Ultra headphones are the first from Bose to support Auracast, the audio sharing technology the company plans to bring to more devices soon.
What Auracast does
Auracast allows a device to broadcast Bluetooth audio to any number of supported headphones or speakers at the same time, for airport announcements, venue performances, lectures, or home TV watching.
Slow adoption since 2022

Auracast was officially announced back in 2022, but adoption has been slow. Only a few major manufacturers include it, including Sony, JBL, Samsung Galaxy Buds, and Sennheiser.
Bose's entry is significant
Bose is one of the most recognizable names in headphones, so the fact that it is finally jumping in is big news for Auracast adoption among mainstream consumers.
More Bose headphones coming
Bose spokesperson Tim Williams told The Verge the QC Headphones Gen 2 should get the beta firmware next, expanding Auracast support across the company's headphone lineup.
The headline
Bose added Auracast support to its four hundred forty-nine dollar QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2, marking the company's first headphones with the Bluetooth audio sharing technology.
