Bose revives the open earbud

Nearly two and a half years after launching the original Ultra Open Earbuds that started the clip-on trend, Bose is releasing a second-generation version with better sound and battery life.
Pricing and color options
The Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) cost $299 and come in five colors. The new Sport model is $199 and available in three colors. Both start preorders September 19th with availability October 1st.
Better sound and longer battery
The new driver delivers higher volume and deeper bass with a Cinema Mode that uses Bose's TrueSpatial technology for immersive sound. Battery life jumps to nine hours on the buds plus 19.5 hours from the redesigned case.
Design tweaks for the premium model

The Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) keep the clip-on design but add a beveled finish on the metal caps and a refreshed look. The case now stands upright and supports wireless charging.
Sport model built for workouts

The Sport Open Earbuds feature a thinner cuff with soft silicone grip to stay secure during head shakes, cartwheels, and running. Textured buttons make them easier to find while exercising.
Sport model battery and features
The Sport Open Earbuds deliver seven hours of playback plus 22 hours from the wireless charging case. They include automatic volume adjustments that adapt to ambient noise.
The headline
Bose is doubling down on open earbuds with two new options: a premium version with improved audio and 9-hour battery life, and a cheaper sport variant designed to stay put during workouts.
