Instagram brings Edits to desktop

Instagram's standalone video editing app is now available on macOS. The desktop version supports connecting AI agents to help assemble and edit videos.
How the AI integration works
Matthew Simari, head of product management for Edits, said creators can use any AI agent they choose, including Meta's Muse, to edit and tweak videos through a dedicated MCP.
“You can use any agent you want, you can use Muse, we would love you to, but really any agent you want of your choice, to edit, tweak, work with your video.”
Blending AI and manual editing
Users can switch between agentic and manual editing. An AI agent can make a rough cut from a video in downloads, then creators open the project in Edits to continue editing.
Advanced editing features included

The desktop app includes a full multi-track timeline, precise audio waveforms, advanced color grading tools, keyboard shortcuts, and support for watermark-free four K exports.
Mobile and desktop integration

The desktop Edits app has access to Instagram's audio library and can publish directly to Instagram. Audio and text styles saved in the mobile app are accessible on desktop.
Current limitations and plans
The desktop app is only available on macOS, not Windows or Linux. Cross-platform editing is not yet supported, but Meta says it is working on it and plans weekly updates.
