Windows gets its big stage back

Microsoft hasn't held a major Windows event in over two years. On October 7th it heads to San Francisco to lay out what comes next for Windows and Surface.
Local AI is the theme

The invite doesn't tease a product. It promises a talk about AI that runs on the PC itself instead of in the cloud.
“conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC”
Jensen Huang joins Nadella
CEO Satya Nadella and Windows and Surface chief Pavan Davuluri will be there, and so will Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. His appearance hints that RTX Spark PCs could be the main focus.
Surface Laptop Ultra details likely
If Nvidia's hardware leads the show, Microsoft could finally share pricing and availability for the Surface Laptop Ultra.
Fixes, not Windows 12
Tom Warren expects Microsoft to focus on quality improvements to Windows and what's coming next. He isn't expecting a surprise Windows 12 announcement.
“I am not expecting a surprise announce of Windows 12, though.”
A rare kind of event
The last one, in May 2024, launched Arm-based Copilot Plus PCs with Qualcomm. Before that, Windows 11 was announced in a June 2021 livestream. The Verge covers this one live at 10AM PT.
The big picture
On October 7th, expect Microsoft to talk about AI that runs on your own PC, Nvidia-powered RTX Spark machines and fixes to Windows, but probably not Windows 12.
