Hubble faces destruction in the 2030s

Hubble in Space

Gravity is slowly dragging the Hubble Space Telescope closer to Earth. Without an orbital boost, it will burn up in the atmosphere in the early to mid 2030s.

NASA asks private companies for rescue plans

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman says the agency is taking proposals from the private sector to see if anyone can save Hubble and extend its scientific mission.

“Hubble still has important science ahead of it, and we should be looking at every reasonable opportunity to keep it delivering for as long as possible.”

Deadline set for commercial proposals

NASA will accept proposals from the private sector through November thirtieth at three PM Eastern Time. The agency wants to explore cost-effective ways to extend Hubble's life.

The main idea

NASA is seeking commercial proposals to boost Hubble's orbit and prevent it from burning up in Earth's atmosphere in the early to mid 2030s.
