Samsung announces third-generation tracker

Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag 3, its third-generation Bluetooth tracker. It combines a smaller design and improved battery life with new tracking and software features, including cross-OS support.
New design is smaller but loses key ring slot
The SmartTag 3 adopts a squircle design similar to the original SmartTag but without a key ring cutout. Users must buy Samsung's protective cases to attach the tracker to keys or a carabiner. It has an IP67 rating.
Battery life stretches to 550 days
The SmartTag 3 is thirty five percent smaller and thirty three percent lighter than the SmartTag 2. It is ten percent more power-efficient, stretching its replaceable CR2032 battery to five hundred fifty days of normal use, or seven hundred ninety days in power-saving mode.
SmartTag 3 now works with iPhones

While previous Galaxy SmartTags only worked with Samsung phones, the new generation supports iOS too. Samsung is pitching this as a way to share tracking information with friends, family, or dogwalkers for help finding lost objects or pets.
New features add geofencing and location history
Notification alerts can trigger when a SmartTag 3 moves in or out of a set area. Movement detection alerts trigger for smaller shifts, and location history helps follow a tag's movements. Tracking uses Samsung's Galaxy Find Network rather than Google's Find Hub.
SmartTag 3 launches in South Korea and US
The SmartTag 3 launches in black and white starting in South Korea on October 7th. US release follows in early November at twenty nine dollars ninety nine for a single tracker and ninety nine dollars ninety nine for a four-pack, matching AirTag and Pixel Tag pricing.
