Boebert breaks with Iran war
Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado said during a Monday debate she never wanted the U.S. at war in Iran and the conflict has been detrimental on many levels.
“I never wanted us to be at war in Iran. This has been detrimental on many levels.”
But she backs Trump's authority
Boebert said President Trump is the commander-in-chief and not the first president to use force through those powers, though she agreed the war is expensive.
“I also will stand by and say that President Trump is the commander-in-chief, and he is not the first president to use force through his powers as commander-in-chief.”
Republicans face midterm headwinds
The Republican Party has faced an uphill battle headed into the midterm elections amid rising public discontent with the Middle East conflict and strain on global energy markets.
Gas prices surge over a year
The average cost of standard gasoline in the U.S. was around four dollars and thirty-four cents a gallon on Tuesday, over a forty percent increase from a year ago, according to AAA.
Most Americans say U.S. is losing
In a CNN and SSRS poll conducted last month, sixty-four percent of Americans said the U.S. was not winning with the military operation against Tehran, which has stretched over seven months.
Boebert says Congress is talking
When asked what Congress was doing to end the war, Boebert said they were having conversations with the Department of War and the president's administration on a regular basis about how to come to an…
She rejects procedural votes
Boebert said a symbolic procedural vote put on by progressive Democrats would not be the answer and would give Iran a clear end date to plan afterwards.
“A symbolic, procedural vote put on by progressive Democrats is not going to be the answer and to give Iran a clear end date so then they can do something afterwards.”
Challenger attacks her voting record
Democratic challenger retired Navy Rear Adm. Eileen Laubacher said Boebert has voted five times to keep the war going and is failing to use her voice to represent constituents opposed to it.
“Your job is to vote whether or not you think the war should continue, and Ms. Boebert has voted now I believe five times to keep this war going.”
Laubacher: Boebert is failing voters
Laubacher said Boebert's job is to be the voice of Congressional District four constituents opposed to the war and raise their voices to the president, but she is failing to do that.
“Your job is to be their voice in Congress, their voice to the president, saying we do not want this war, and you are failing to do that.”
District has farming concerns too
Boebert is running for reelection in Colorado's fourth Congressional District, which has been reliably red for over a decade and includes a large farming and ranching community increasingly skeptical of Trump's tariffs.
In short
Rep. Lauren Boebert opposes the Iran war but has voted five times to continue it, her Democratic challenger says, as Republicans struggle with public discontent over the seven-month conflict.
