D’Angelo Hunt seeks third trial delay
Plea talks, heavy evidence, and a pending severance fight could push D’Angelo Hunt’s federal trial back four months.
In brief
Plea talks, heavy evidence, and a pending severance fight could push D’Angelo Hunt’s federal trial back four months. The trial delay request centers on early plea talks and a large evidence record, while a separate ruling could decide whether the two deaths are tried together. Originally reported by Valleynewslive.
Another delay requested

D’Angelo Hunt’s defense asked a federal judge to postpone his Nov. 17 trial for four months as plea talks begin.
“the two sides have since started negotiations but are “just getting started.””
Ten federal charges
Hunt is accused in the death of his brother, Isaac Hunt, and in the death of J.M.P., a woman he had dated before she went missing in January 2024.
A heavy evidence file
The defense says the case may take four weeks to try. Discovery includes more than 19,000 pages, plus recordings, photos, and other files.
“more than 16,000 pages of documents and 13 files of recordings and photos”
Prosecutor does not object
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Conroy has not opposed the delay request. Hunt also agreed to waive his speedy trial rights.
One trial or two
A separate motion asks whether the deaths of Isaac Hunt and J.M.P. should be tried apart. The defense says the cases are unrelated and the J.M.P. evidence is weaker.
Life sentence possible
If convicted of second-degree murder, Hunt could face life in prison. The voluntary manslaughter charge carries up to 15 years.
“Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
The takeaway
The trial delay request centers on early plea talks and a large evidence record, while a separate ruling could decide whether the two deaths are tried together.
