Minnesota ditches physical tags for big game
Hunters can now validate harvests digitally instead of attaching physical tags to deer, elk, and other game.
In brief
Hunters can now validate harvests digitally instead of attaching physical tags to deer, elk, and other game. Minnesota hunters must complete digital or printed site validation before moving harvested animals, then register within required timeframes. Originally reported by Valleynewslive.
Minnesota ends physical game tags
The Department of Natural Resources no longer requires hunters to attach physical tags to deer, elk, bear, furbearers, turkey, or lake sturgeon at harvest.
Site validation replaces tagging
Hunters must complete site validation before moving the animal from where it was harvested. This confirms the harvest location and details.
Two ways to validate your harvest

Use the MN DNR Licensing mobile app for digital validation, or complete a printed form from a license retailer or your home printer.
Keep printed forms with you
If you use a printed site validation form, you must keep it on your person while transporting the animal.
Registration still required
Site validation does not replace harvest registration. Hunters must still register their harvest within the required timeframe online, through the app, or at a license retailer.
Offline submissions need resubmission
If you complete mobile validation or registration while offline, reopen the app once you have service to submit your information.
The essence
Minnesota hunters must complete digital or printed site validation before moving harvested animals, then register within required timeframes.
