Woodland Trails Resort Closes

Seasonal campers at Woodland Trails Resort on Strawberry Lake say they were blindsided by an email announcing the campground is closing permanently, just one day after the resort shut down for the season.

Resort Closed Sept 20

The resort closed Sept. 20 for the offseason, requiring everyone to be off the property but allowing campers, decks, sheds, boat lifts and other personal property to remain on-site until spring.

Dawn Sullivan Announces Closure

On Sept. 21, an email from owner Dawn Sullivan was sent to roughly 70 camper owners and lot renters, informing them that after 26 years in business, the resort will not reopen.

Closure Reason

Sullivan wrote in the message to campers: 'After 26 years in the business, we are retiring and closing the resort permanently. Due to rapidly escalating lakefront values on Strawberry Lake, it is not feasible to sell our resort as a business.'

New Removal Deadlines

Sullivan said the resort’s current business insurance expires at the end of October, and 'all personal property must be removed by that date.' She added that the owners are exploring an interim insurance policy that could allow winter storage on the property for a fee.

Seasonal Renters Impact

The abrupt change leaves seasonal renters with weeks, rather than months, to move large items such as trailers and boat lifts that they expected to store on-site until spring.

The short version

Woodland Trails Resort permanently closes its Strawberry Lake campground after 26 years due to rapidly escalating lakefront values.
