Two weeks after Lindsay Clancy's mistrial was declared, Patrick gave his first TV interview to CBS News' 60 Minutes to address conspiracy theories linking him to his children's deaths.

Conspiracy theories harm his children's legacy

Patrick said the theories are deeply harmful to his children's memory and distract from the real issue: perinatal mental health awareness and support.

“It's deeply harmful to the legacy of my children. It is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health.”

He met Rachel Denis in Central Park

Patrick married reproductive specialist Rachel Denis in Central Park last April. She learned about his children's deaths on their first coffee date.

“I was just a girl that met a guy running in Central Park on a really cold Saturday.”

Rachel wants to honor his children

Rachel wants to honor his children

Denis told 60 Minutes she cannot bring his kids back, but she hopes to honor them and allow Patrick to grieve while continuing to celebrate their memory.

“I know I can't bring his kids back. But if I can honor them and allow Pat to grieve but also just continue to honor them in the present, I guess that's all I can do.”

Patrick struggled with suicidal thoughts

After his children's deaths, Patrick said there was a time he didn't expect to live past his 35th birthday. Meeting Rachel changed his life in a positive way.

“There was a time that I didn't think I'd live to see my 35th birthday. And I was completely fine with it.”

The tragedy of January 24, 2023

Lindsay killed their three children at their Massachusetts home: Cora, 5, and Dawson, 3, died at the scene. Their youngest, Callan, 8 months old, was airlifted to Boston Children's Hospital.

Callan died in Patrick's arms

Doctors kept Callan's heart beating for four days. Patrick said he hoped his youngest would survive, but Callan eventually succumbed to his injuries while Patrick held him.

“I'm so grateful for those four days that I had with him. And I'm so grateful he hung on. He died in my arms.”

Patrick has forgiven Lindsay

Patrick said he saw headlines calling Lindsay a killer and monster, but he believes her severe mental illness caused the tragedy. He forgave her to avoid being consumed by anger.

“I believe that it was her mental illness that caused that. If I didn't get there, I would be eaten up inside forever.”

Lindsay had undiagnosed postpartum psychosis

In October 2022, when Callan was five months old, Patrick noticed Lindsay wasn't sleeping and showed signs of severe depression and intrusive thoughts. She checked into McLean Psychiatric Hospital in December.

Lindsay was released before the murders

Lindsay was discharged from McLean Hospital just seventeen days before she killed her children on January 24, 2023. Patrick later learned she had no memory of the murders, describing them as dreamlike.

“She said it was like a dream. And she remembered it much in the way you'd remember a dream after waking up.”

Patrick moved to New York to grieve

Patrick relocated to Manhattan seeking anonymity. On what would have been Callan's first birthday, he went to St. Patrick's Cathedral to light a candle and found solace in a place where he could grieve openly.

“I walk out on Fifth Avenue and I start crying my eyes out. And nobody cared. This is where I need to be. I can grieve.”

The takeaway

Patrick Clancy has forgiven his ex-wife Lindsay for killing their three children, emphasizing that her severe postpartum psychosis, not malice, caused the tragedy.
