SNL U.K. goes after Trump's new hair
A Weekend Update hair joke lands, then the follow-up punchline vanishes and the anchor blames the lawyers on air.
In brief
A Weekend Update hair joke lands, then the follow-up punchline vanishes and the anchor blames the lawyers on air. The biggest laugh wasn't the hair joke, it was Paddy Young telling the audience his better line had just been cut. Originally reported by Variety.
Weekend Update picks a target
"Saturday Night Live U.K." used its Weekend Update desk to go hard at Donald Trump's new hairstyle.
A different shade of brown
Co-anchor Ania Magliano set it up straight: Trump stepped off Air Force One with a new hair color. Then she offered two theories about it.
“He appears to be trialling a new shade of brown.”
The second theory
Magliano's alternative explanation was not flattering, and it was the line that got the room. "Or, he's shat his head."
“Or, he's shat his head.”
Does the carpet match
Paddy Young took the handoff with the oldest hair-dye question there is, then stopped before answering it.
“People are questioning, does the carpet still match the drapes?”
Blame the legal team
Young told the audience his punchline had been pulled seconds earlier, and thanked the lawyers for it. The sarcasm did the work the joke would have.
“Thank you, legal team, it was almost funny.”
Bit or real cut
Nobody outside the show can say whether the legal department actually intervened or whether the whole interruption was written that way.
The main idea
The biggest laugh wasn't the hair joke, it was Paddy Young telling the audience his better line had just been cut.
