Pope Leo XIV: carry everyone in your heart
Pope Leo XIV tells new Bishops the job starts with knowing names, not managing institutions.
In brief
Pope Leo XIV tells new Bishops the job starts with knowing names, not managing institutions. A Bishop's authority is measured by how many people he actually carries, including those who profess no faith. Originally reported by Vaticannews.
New bishops, one course
Pope Leo XIV met Bishops in Rome taking part in a formation course called "Bishops, servants of communion in the Church and in today's world." He told them they never walk alone.
Everyone gets a place
He said no one can be left out of a Bishop's heart, and gave the reason plainly: Christ has already made room for them.
“because everyone already has a place in the heart of Christ”
Stay with Jesus first
Before anything else, the Pope said, guard the time spent in prayer, the Eucharist and the Word, with the simple heart of a disciple who lets himself be loved.
“Always cherish your time with the Lord”
Learn their names
A Bishop learns to love his people more each day by knowing their joys and sorrows. In young Churches, sitting with one priest or listening to one family leaves a deep mark.
“A Bishop is a man who learns each day to love his people more deeply”
Keep a missionary heart
Pope Leo praised Churches that own little but hold great faith, and asked the Bishops to carry their priests especially, through preaching, prayer, discernment and time given away.
“a Church that may possess little but is rich in great faith”
AI cannot forgive sin
With technology changing fast, the Pope said machines cannot free anyone from sin, so keep preaching the Gospel and open discussion of his encyclical Magnifica Humanitas.
“Let us seek the face of the Lord with them each day.”
