Golden Gate arrives September 14
Apple's macOS 27 Golden Gate officially launched on September 14, 2026. The update was announced at WWDC in June and is now available to download on compatible Macs.
Siri AI is the main event

Siri AI is Apple's first serious attempt to integrate AI deeply into macOS. It's based on Google Gemini models and includes screen awareness, automatic proofreading, and improved voice options.
Only Apple Silicon Macs supported
MacOS 27 Golden Gate only works on Apple Silicon Macs. Intel-powered Macs stopped receiving updates with macOS 26 Tahoe. Compatible devices include MacBook Pro 2020 and later, MacBook Air 2020 and later, and Mac mini 2020 and later.
Advanced features need M3 or newer
Advanced Apple Intelligence features like improved Voice Mode require an M3 Mac or newer with at least 12 GB of RAM. This excludes the MacBook Neo and older MacBook Airs from before 2024.
Siri AI limited by region and language

Siri AI is currently English-only and won't be immediately available in the EU or China due to regulatory concerns. The feature is rolling out gradually and currently in beta.
How to install Golden Gate now
Go to System Settings, then General, then Software Update. You'll see macOS Golden Gate 27 available with options to Update Now or Update Tonight. The beta has been available since July.
Siri works systemwide on your Mac
Siri AI is now accessible from anywhere on your desktop with a right click. It integrates with Finder, Spotlight, and can analyze screenshots. You can prompt it directly in the Siri app or through context menus.
Safari gets smarter tab organization
Safari now has Topics, which uses AI to automatically group related tabs together. You can close or save these groups as tab groups. Custom Extensions let you create Safari extensions using natural language descriptions.
Safari adds webpage tracking and security
A new Notify Me feature alerts you when webpages update, appearing as notification badges on your desktop. Safari also uses the Passwords app to automatically fix login passwords that are no longer safe.
Shortcuts app gets natural language design
You can now create automated shortcuts using natural language instead of manually connecting functions. For example, type 'Whenever I'm leaving work, calculate the ETA, and send it to Pedro' to combine Maps and Messages.
“Whenever I'm leaving work, calculate the ETA, and send it to Pedro”
Image Playground gets photorealistic upgrade
Image Playground now uses Google Gemini technology and can generate photorealistic imagery. It supports landscape and portrait aspect ratios and allows iterative editing. Daily limits apply, but iCloud+ subscribers can buy more generations.
Liquid Glass refined for clarity
MacOS Golden Gate refines the Liquid Glass transparency effect from last year. A new refraction effect better obscures background content and makes foreground text easier to read. A slider lets you adjust transparency from 0 to 100 percent.
Visual refinements across the interface
The toolbar now has a uniform menu, sidebars expand to window edges, and sidebar icons have color again. Apple improved responsiveness in memory usage, CPU usage, display rendering, and app switching. Moving between Spaces and opening Mission Control are now more fluid.
HDR support goes systemwide
MacOS 27 now uses XDR panel brightness systemwide in certain UI elements, not just HDR content. Liquid Glass-enhanced icons and buttons now show more brightness in highlights, giving them more visual pop.
External monitor support expanded
MacOS 27 supports additional high-resolution and high-refresh-rate display modes for external monitors. Macs currently don't officially support monitors over 240 Hz, but support for 360 Hz or 480 Hz may be coming.
Here's the gist
MacOS 27 Golden Gate's biggest feature is Siri AI, a new chatbot with screen awareness and natural language processing that's rolling out gradually to users.
