In brief
Meta's new AI agent Muse generates explicit sexual content and says that's fine. Other AI makers disagree. Meta's AI agent Muse allows and generates sexually explicit content, departing from competitors' policies and raising security concerns among privacy advocates. Originally reported by WIRED.
Muse generates explicit sexual content
Meta's AI agent Muse, launched three weeks ago, generates graphic pornographic text when asked. In tests, it described oral sex, dominant-submissive scenarios, and other X-rated interactions in explicit detail.
Meta says sexual content is allowed
Daniel Roberts, a Meta spokesperson, told WIRED that Muse is for people eighteen and over and allows adult conversations in private secure virtual machines. Meta says it does not block legal adult behaviour.
“Muse is built to help people get things done, and it doesn't block legal adult behavior.”
Meta's system prompt endorses sexual content

Muse's system prompt states that adults have autonomy over their sexuality and sexual expression is ordinary adult life. Adult sexual content is lawful expression and legitimate creative work, it says.
“Adults have autonomy over their sexuality, and sexual expression is an ordinary part of adult life.”
Consumer advocates call it careless
Ben Winters, director of AI and privacy at the Consumer Federation of America, says allowing sexual content reflects carelessness and continues Meta's pattern of choosing addiction and engagement over safety.
“It reflects a carelessness with their signature product of the moment.”
Security experts warn of hacking risk
Calli Schroeder, senior counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center, says explicit Muse interactions create a security vulnerability. Hackers accessing accounts could use intimate conversations for extortion or embarrassment.
“This is really a powder keg.”
Competitors decline to generate sexual content

OpenAI's Dots agent and xAI's Grok Bot both declined to sext in tests, redirecting to other tasks. OpenAI previously considered allowing ChatGPT to generate erotic text but never launched the feature to users.
