OpenAI announces Dots at DevDay

OpenAI unveiled Dots, always-on AI agents, at its DevDay 2026 event on Tuesday in San Francisco. These cute blob agents complete multistep tasks on users' behalf and can be personalized.
Dots run on GPT-6 Astra
Dots are powered by OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model. Unlike single-turn chatbots, these agents constantly crawl the web to complete assigned tasks, pull context from connected apps, and learn user preferences over time.
Dots handle real-world tasks
In one demo, a Dot saw the user's calendar showed they were working through dinner and proactively messaged two GrubHub food delivery options with pricing. Another example showed a user collaborating with an agent to launch a new website.
Access through multiple platforms

Users can message Dots through ChatGPT, Slack, and Microsoft Teams, with context shared across all modes. Pro users can join a waitlist to text with their Dots in iMessage or RCS messaging on Android.
Pro tier launch, enterprise plans ahead
Dots rollout starts today for ChatGPT Pro subscribers at one hundred dollars a month. CEO Sam Altman announced specialist Dots for enterprise customers tuned for accounting, email marketing, and legal analysis. Users can control one Dot initially, with multiple agents expected eventually.
Safety guardrails and privacy concerns
Dots require explicit approval before sensitive actions like installing software or changing passwords. Users can set Custom Rules to establish boundaries. OpenAI built safety guardrails in, but users should exercise caution connecting data and note that model training settings carry over to agent interactions.
The big picture
OpenAI announced Dots, always-on AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra that proactively complete tasks for users, launching today for ChatGPT Pro subscribers at one hundred dollars a month.
