Wizards complete roster with Gill

Washington re-signed Anthony Gill to a one-year deal to fill the 15th and final roster spot for the 2026-27 season. Gill becomes the franchise's longest-tenured on-court contributor with seven seasons in D.C.

“Anthony Gill is back and buckled in for a seventh Wizards campaign to extend his status as the franchise's longest-tenured on-court contributor.”

Career-best season at age 33

Gill posted career highs across the board last season: 5.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 62.8% field goal percentage, and 17.3 minutes per game. He helped spell an injury-depleted frontcourt down the stretch.

“career-bests in nightly points (5.8), rebounds (2.9), assists (1.3), field goal percentage (62.8%) and minutes (17.3)”

Depth behind star frontcourt

Gill provides veteran depth behind Anthony Davis, Alex Sarr, and Deandre Ayton. He'll absorb regular season minutes when the team's primary big men need rest or face injury.

More than just the stats

Gill's return isn't about his scoring numbers. He brings a friendly, community-oriented presence that complements the team's younger players and prospects.

Constant through roster changes

Since joining mid-way through the 2020-21 season, Gill has remained a steady presence even as stars like Russell Westbrook and DeMar DeRozan came and went. He's been a fixture at team community events.

Locker room guardian role

Gill has earned a reputation as a consummate professional who mentors younger teammates. Fans and analysts expected him to stick around in some capacity, and he's earned another playing opportunity.

“he's done nothing but coax the growth of his younger teammates”

Move earns an A grade

The signing receives top marks for bringing back a player who understands the organization's culture and can help develop the next generation of Wizards talent.
