Four out for kickoff

West Virginia will be without four players for game two against UT Martin. Only one of them, receiver Prince Strachan, was known ahead of time.

The names on the list

Running backs Andre Devine and Chris Talley, defensive lineman Jaylen Thomas and linebacker Antoine Sharp Jr. all missed the dress list.

No details given

Devine is banged up, but the staff has not explained how badly. Thomas and Sharp got no explanation at all.

A recruiting win sits idle

Thomas was North Division Defensive Player of the Year at Northwest Mississippi CC with 18 tackles and 2.5 for loss. WVU beat Tennessee, Baylor and Iowa State for him.

Strachan is two weeks away

Rich Rodriguez said the USC transfer is out again this week but has a shot at returning in two. He hurt the shoulder on a diving catch in the spring game, then reaggravated it in fall camp.

“Hopefully he'll be back maybe for next week's game. He'll be out again this week, but he's got a chance to play in two weeks.”

Neider slides in again

UConn transfer John Neider starts at the Z for the second straight week, with Jaden Bray shifting to the X. Strachan's return would give Mike Hawkins Jr. two big-bodied targets outside.

Life without Darius Wiley

Wiley is out for the season, so Emerson Joy backs up Zeke Durham-Campbell at defensive end. Joy posted 5.5 tackles for loss and three sacks in eight games at Alberta College.

Young ends get a look

Redshirt freshmen Wilnerson Telemaque and Brandon Caesar should see extended snaps, with edge rushers Jeremiah Johnson and Tobi Haastrup mixing in. Kickoff is 1 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
