Netflix stocks up for fall

Prime Video has owned book-to-screen lately, but Netflix is answering with a run of adaptations built for cold-night binges. Three of them land this season.
Pride and Prejudice, again
Jane Austen's 1813 novel gets a six-part Netflix series, following the 1940 film, the 1995 miniseries and the 2005 movie.
Corrin and Lowden lead
Emma Corrin plays Elizabeth Bennet, one of five sisters pushed to marry well in 19th-century England. Jack Lowden is the wealthy, prickly Mr. Darcy she can't stand at first.
A once-a-generation retelling
Screenwriter Dolly Alderton calls the novel the blueprint for romantic comedy and says she went back to the pages hunting both familiar and fresh angles.
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story”
A stacked Bennet household
Olivia Colman and Rufus Sewell play Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, with Freya Mavor, Rhea Norwood, Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery as the sisters. No release date yet, just fall 2026.
East of Eden arrives October 1
Steinbeck's 1952 novel becomes a Netflix limited series about good and evil, traced through two neighboring families: the Trasks and the Hamiltons.
“It needs to be epic and intimate”
Florence Pugh plays Cathy

Pugh is Cathy Ames, who marries Adam Trask (Christopher Abbott) and bears his twin sons before her manipulative streak surfaces. The Hamiltons next door are her mirror image.
A holiday bodyguard romance

Guarding Stars, out November 18, adapts Katherine Center's The Bodyguard. Leighton Meester protects action star Jared Padalecki over the holidays, and sparks follow.
“It makes the most gorgeous backdrop for the sparks that fly between them”
Why the title changed
The film dropped the book's name to avoid confusion with the 1992 Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner movie of the same title.
The one thing
Mark October 1 for East of Eden and November 18 for Guarding Stars, and watch for Pride and Prejudice sometime this fall.
