In brief
HIVE Digital just handed its AI cloud arm to a man who grew HPE's HPC business past $2 billion. HIVE is quietly pivoting from Bitcoin mining to AI compute, and the hire of Mark Volk is the clearest signal yet. Originally reported by Yahoo Finance.
A revenue chief for the AI arm

HIVE Digital Technologies named Mark Volk Senior Vice President of Revenue at BUZZ HPC, its wholly owned AI cloud and high-performance computing subsidiary.
Sell to everyone with a budget
Volk owns go-to-market across enterprise, government, sovereign AI, hyperscale, research and academia, covering sovereign cloud, GPU-as-a-Service, colocation and hybrid setups.
Thirty years, and nine months inside
He has three decades in AI and enterprise infrastructure, and he is not a stranger here. He spent roughly nine months consulting for HIVE, building the GPU cloud demand pipeline.
He has done this before

At HPE, the HPC and AI business grew about 425% to more than $2 billion under his commercial leadership. At IBM he ran a $1.2 billion portfolio and launched its first HPC Cloud SaaS product.
The pipeline he built
BUZZ HPC has closed over $600 million in total contract value this year, including a five-year, $350 million deal signed August 17 with an unnamed investment-grade customer.
Mining gives way to GPUs
HIVE cleared $1 million in daily revenue on August 21 and is winding down Bitcoin mining in Sweden, weighing whether to repurpose that power for AI instead.
“The objective is simple: put every megawatt to its highest and best use.”
At a glance
HIVE is quietly pivoting from Bitcoin mining to AI compute, and the hire of Mark Volk is the clearest signal yet.
