How Low Can Bitcoin Go?

Five forecasters drew a line for Bitcoin's bottom, and only one of them has history behind it.

In brief

Five forecasters drew a line for Bitcoin's bottom, and only one of them has history behind it. The realized price near $53,600 is the level with real historical weight; a weekly close above $81,000 takes the deeper targets off the table. Originally reported by Yahoo Finance.

Down a third in a year

Bitcoin sits at $77,278 on September 12, 2026, off 33.5% from $116,106 a year ago. The early September bounce died at $82,283 and sellers took it back to the low $77,000s.

Nobody agrees on the floor

Peter Brandt, Arthur Hayes, Citi, NYDIG and Delta Exchange have each named a level or a window. Their numbers range from roughly $62,000 down to $19,000.

“they don't agree. So how low can Bitcoin go?”

First support already tested

The nearest band runs $76,500 to $77,000, about 1% below spot. Bitcoin dipped to $76,030 on September 11 and buyers stepped straight back in.

Options pull toward $73,000

Max pain, the strike where the most open contract value expires worthless, sits at $73,000. Options sellers profit when contracts die, so spot tends to drift toward that number near expiry.

Next rung: $72,000

If $76,500 gives way, the zone from $72,000 to $74,000 is next, about 6.8% below. Bitcoin climbed through that band off the June low, so buyers have reason to defend it.

Below $58,562 changes everything

That was the June 30 cycle low, reclaimed within weeks. Losing it again would mean dip-buyers have walked away and forced sellers are setting the price.

Where two methods agree

The network's aggregate cost basis is $53,600, and Citi's bear case is $53,000. Below that line the average holder is underwater, which is historically where leveraged selling burns out.

The tail bets

NYDIG's $38,000 needs a US recession plus a full ETF unwind, neither of which has shown up. Hayes floats a 75% crash to about $19,320, then $250,000 on the other side.

The line that cancels it

A weekly close above the 50-week moving average at $81,000 would invalidate the deeper rungs. Without it, $58,562 down to $53,600 is where the evidence points.

“with $38,000 reserved for a recession the market hasn't seen”

At a glance

The realized price near $53,600 is the level with real historical weight; a weekly close above $81,000 takes the deeper targets off the table.
