NVIDIA's $1.4 trillion war chest

An analyst thinks NVIDIA could pile up $1.4 trillion in cash by 2031, enough to out-bank the banks funding the AI boom.

In brief

An analyst thinks NVIDIA could pile up $1.4 trillion in cash by 2031, enough to out-bank the banks funding the AI boom. NVIDIA isn't just selling the AI buildout, it's financing it, and the cash engine compounding underneath that is the whole bet. Originally reported by Yahoo Finance.

SemiAnalysis projects NVIDIA could hold roughly $1.4 trillion in cash and investments by fiscal 2031. That is a model, not a balance sheet, built off consensus EBITDA of about $441 billion in fiscal 2028.

The cash engine tripled

Operating cash flow went from $28.09 billion in the year to January 2024, to $64.09 billion, to $102.72 billion in the year ended January 2026. The projection is just that curve extended.

The last quarter was absurd

Revenue hit $96.22 billion, up 105.8% year over year, with $59.69 billion of net income and a 75.0% non-GAAP gross margin. Doubling at that scale is the part that makes the math work.

Almost no debt to speak of

Total assets of $320.27 billion as of July 31, 2026, with $128 billion in short and long-term investments plus $22.44 billion cash. Debt is $38.86 billion against $228.98 billion of equity.

Management is guiding higher

NVIDIA guided Q3 fiscal 2027 revenue to $108.0 billion, give or take 2%. CFO Colette Kress told analysts to expect fiscal 2028 revenue growth of roughly 70%.

Supplier and banker at once

AI infrastructure spending runs about $11 trillion from 2024 to 2029, much of it debt-financed. NVIDIA has mobilized over $500 billion of third-party capital with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR.

It is also on the hook

Supply commitments have climbed to $279.0 billion, mostly memory for Vera Rubin, and NVIDIA has issued guarantee obligations capped at $108.5 billion for cloud and data center partners.

Each gigawatt earns more

Kress said Vera Rubin generates $40 billion per gigawatt, up from $25 billion for Blackwell and about $18 billion for Hopper. The same power footprint keeps getting more valuable.

“Next Vera Rubin is 40. And after that, it's going to be higher.”

Cash is already going out

NVIDIA returned roughly $26.0 billion to shareholders in Q2 with $99.0 billion left on the buyback authorization. SemiAnalysis expects most of the pile to be recycled into securities, equity stakes and ecosystem support, not parked.

What could break it

Slower GPU demand, margin compression or new export restrictions all pull the number down. Wall Street is still underwriting it: 57 buy ratings against three holds or sells, and a $327.65 target with shares at $218.29.

The essence

NVIDIA isn't just selling the AI buildout, it's financing it, and the cash engine compounding underneath that is the whole bet.
