## ₹146 crore for mining camps
Karnataka State Commission for Women Chairperson Nagalakshmi Choudhary announced development works in thirteen mining-affected camps in Vijayanagara district at a cost of one hundred forty-six crore rupees.
## Fifty to sixty years without homes
Residents of the thirteen camps told Choudhary they have lived there for fifty to sixty years without proper housing, good roads, drainage facilities, adequate medical services or reliable transport connectivity.
## Unfulfilled promises for years
Residents complained that although mining companies handed over private land to the district administration years ago, neither residential sites nor houses have been allotted or constructed.

## Severe hardship in makeshift homes
Women, pregnant women and recently delivered mothers face severe hardship in makeshift houses that flood during rainy season and force residents to seek forest shelter during scorching summers.
## Construction starts in December
Choudhary said the process of sanctioning residential sites and houses is complete and construction works will commence in December with essential infrastructure alongside proper housing.
## Employment and skill development
The state government will create opportunities for employment, education and skill development for youth in mining-affected families to improve their socio-economic conditions.
## Job fair for camp residents
Urban Development Cell Project Director Manohar said a special job fair will be organised for unemployed young men and women from the thirteen camps, with priority given to mining-affected families.
## Community halls for residents only
Choudhary directed officials to prevent unauthorised use of community halls and ensure they are used exclusively for activities benefiting local residents including training programmes and public welfare initiatives.
## Key takeaway

Karnataka will spend one hundred forty-six crore developing thirteen mining-affected camps in Vijayanagara district, with construction starting in December.
