## Boy survives stabbing rampage
A 6-year-old from Houma, Louisiana escaped a mass stabbing that killed four people by reaching a neighbor's doorstep despite suffering multiple stab wounds.
## Suspect followed boy, then fled
Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, reportedly chased the boy to the neighbor's door, knocked him down, and fled. The boy lost consciousness inside the house after the neighbor called 911.
## Four people found dead nearby
Deputies responding to the injured child discovered four deceased victims inside two nearby residences on Ashland Drive in Houma on September 12, 2026.
## Suspect arrested and charged
Solet was hospitalized for his own injuries, released Tuesday, and booked on four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
## Child's father praises his strength
The boy's father posted on social media that his son is stable and called him a fighter. He thanked people for prayers and support as his son recovers.

> Please pray for my little man as he recovers he's so so strong and such a fighter
## Community raises funds for family
A GoFundMe for the boy and his family reached nearly $60,000 of a $70,000 goal. The page identified relatives Verna Mae Verdin and Letha Verret as victims killed in the attack.
## Suspect had prior stabbing arrest
Solet was arrested in December 2019 for allegedly stabbing a woman repeatedly and locking her in a Houma motel room, raising questions about why he remained free.
## Sheriff questions how suspect was freed
Lt. Blake Tabor said authorities were stunned Solet remained out of custody and acknowledged the case raised serious questions about how the prior stabbing case was handled.

> How this slipped through, I certainly don't know, but it's a question that probably needs to be answered
## District attorney's office under scrutiny
The sheriff's office questioned how Solet's previous cases were handled and whether he remained under court supervision. The district attorney's office did not immediately respond.
## Key takeaway

A child's bravery during a mass stabbing that killed four people has raised urgent questions about how a violent offender remained free in the community.
