## Malaysia gets picked
Segula Technologies India plans to make Malaysia its regional hub for South-east Asia, a decision it firmed up after meeting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in New Delhi.
## Three quarters to launch
CEO and managing director for India and South-east Asia, Arun Rajendran, said operations should start within the next three quarters.
## Why Malaysia won
Rajendran pointed to three things already in place: a strong manufacturing base, existing infrastructure, and a skilled talent pool.
## Upskilling is the pitch
The talks with Anwar centred on training Malaysian engineers for advanced manufacturing and global design and development programmes.

## Hunting local partners
Segula is courting Hicom Engineering, a Selangor-based automotive manufacturing and engineering firm, as its partner on the ground.
## Working the agencies
The company is also in talks with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and MIDA, and wants backing from the Malaysian consulate general in Chennai.
## Fifty jobs, one customer close
Segula wants 50 full-time roles in Malaysia to begin with, trained in advanced manufacturing before joining global customer programmes. One customer deal is near signing.

> One customer engagement is nearing finalisation, with more details expected by end of the current quarter
## Key takeaway

Segula is betting on Malaysia's factories and engineers, and the first 50 jobs land within three quarters.
