## A drowning at the border
Faiz Hasan, 23, a Thai man, was found drowned in Sungai Golok along the Malaysia-Thailand border on Saturday evening.
## Where it happened
The stretch sits near Kampung Pengkalan Pasir and Abe Yie in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, in Kelantan.
## The 6.27am call
The General Operations Force reported that someone had gone into the water and never came back up. That call started everything.

> a person had jumped into the water and did not resurface
## Two countries searching
Eight personnel from the Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station worked the riverbank from 7am, joined by police and a Thai diving unit.

> with assistance from several agencies, including the police and a diving unit from Thailand
## Found at 7.10pm
Thai authorities recovered the body that evening, more than twelve hours after the first call, while the search was still running.
## Called off the next day
Thai authorities took the body for further action. The search operation was fully stood down at 7.15pm the following day.
## Key takeaway

Sungai Golok is a border, so a single drowning pulls in fire crews, police and divers from both countries before anyone can be brought home.
