## Check your fridge
Happy Hens is voluntarily recalling organic eggs over possible salmonella. The affected cartons carry sell-by dates of Sept. 10, Sept. 13 and Sept. 24.
## Every size is covered
The recall spans dozen and 18-count cartons, 20- and 30-count flats, and 15-dozen cases sent to foodservice customers.
## 23 sick since June
The farm issued the recall on Sept. 8 after an outbreak that sickened 23 people between June 21 and Aug. 16. County investigators interviewed the sick and traced it back.
## The farm pushed back
On Aug. 17, co-owner Chloe Nevarez said on Instagram there was no evidence tying her eggs to the illnesses, and that her chickens had tested negative.

> 100% unfounded, not a shred of evidence, not a shred of testing done
## Then the swabs came back
The FDA sampled the farm Aug. 17 to Aug. 20. Two samples from the poultry housing tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis. Raw-egg mayonnaise from a Ramona market was also linked.
## What to watch for
Diarrhea, fever and cramps can start six hours to six days after exposure and last about a week. Kids under 5, adults over 65 and anyone immunocompromised face the highest risk.
## Key takeaway

If you have Happy Hens organic eggs with sell-by dates of Sept. 10, 13 or 24, throw them out or return them, and sanitize anything they touched.
