## A ship hit at dawn
An Iranian cargo vessel was struck early Sunday off Qeshm Island, killing one person and wounding four, according to Iranian state media. A UK maritime monitor reported a projectile, a fire, and an evacuation.
## Nobody claims it
The Qeshm governor blamed a "terrorist enemy". The US military, which has struck Iranian-flagged ships during its blockade and now faces Iranian missiles aimed at its warships, said nothing.

> Our people can't be bullied into submission. Iran won't surrender.
## Two chokepoints at once
Days earlier, Houthi rebels swept down Yemen's Red Sea coast and captured an island on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The alternative route for global shipping is under pressure too, and oil prices have climbed.
## The Oman meeting
Foreign ministers from regional countries were set to meet Monday in Oman to hear how Iran and Oman plan to manage traffic through the strait. Only Iraq confirmed it would attend. Bahrain said no.
## Pay to pass
Since early in the war, Iran has floated transit fees: inbound ships through Iranian waters, outbound split between Iranian and Omani waters. Commercial traffic stays thin as attacks continue.
## Open only if Washington folds
An agreement with Oman would not reopen the waterway. Tehran wants regional buy-in strong enough that Washington has to accept the strait's future is decided next door, not in Washington.

> The waterway would be opened up on the condition that the U.S. will terminate its blockade.
## Key takeaway

Iran and Oman want regional buy-in to make the strait a regional matter rather than an American one, but Tehran still ties any reopening to the US lifting its blockade.
