## Padres activate Adam from injury
Right-hander Jason Adam was activated ahead of Wednesday's game against the Dodgers after missing nearly three months with a right shoulder strain.
## Elite bullpen gets stronger
The Padres have baseball's best bullpen this season, and Adam's return could make it even more formidable heading into the playoffs.
## Adam's pre-injury numbers were strong
Before the shoulder strain, Adam posted a 2.51 ERA across 36 appearances, establishing himself as a reliable arm in San Diego's relief corps.
## Rehab appearances showed mixed results
Adam's three rehab games with Triple-A El Paso were rough, but the Padres blamed the hitter-friendly park and batted-ball luck rather than his readiness.

> I felt great. Stuff was really good. Coming out of the hand good.
## Strikeout rate decline worth watching
Adam's strikeout numbers are down significantly this season despite maintaining a low ERA, meaning he may get fewer high-leverage situations until his stuff proves itself.
## Motivated to make playoff push
Adam missed last year's playoffs after a September quadriceps injury, making him especially eager to contribute to San Diego's postseason hopes this time around.

> You can't take any days in the big leagues for granted, especially playoff games.
## Key takeaway

Adam is back to help the Padres' best-in-baseball bullpen make a postseason run, though his reduced strikeout rate means he may see fewer high-leverage situations initially.
