## Airbnb bans major cleaning tasks
Starting November twentieth, hosts cannot require guests to strip beds, wash dishes or take trash offsite. Simpler tasks like placing dishes in the sink remain allowed.
## Why Airbnb made the change
Airbnb said house rules had become confusing and onerous. The company redesigned them to make requests reasonable and clearer to discover and set.

> House rules help guests understand what hosts expect, but we've heard from our community that they can be confusing, onerous and hard to manage.
## New limits on host powers
Hosts can no longer impose their own fines on guests. Separate contracts are limited to circumstances required by law or homeowners association rules.
## How hosts can adapt
Hosts can choose from seven standard house rules and add their own reasonable requests. Airbnb will flag non-compliant requests and allow hosts to appeal.
## Key takeaway

Airbnb banned hosts from requiring guests to strip beds, wash dishes or take trash offsite, effective for reservations booked on or after November twentieth, twenty twenty-six.
