## What is the Amaran T2c?
The Amaran T2c is a two-foot-long tube light that produces specific color temperatures like daylight (5600K) or creative gel colors for portraits.
## Amaran's background
Amaran is part of Aputure, a company producing lighting equipment for professional filmmakers and photographers since 2005.
## Design features
The T2c has a black metal spine, metal end caps, a white diffuser, and a small monochrome OLED screen for adjustments.
## Power and portability
The T2c runs on 20W power with a battery grip that provides up to two hours of operation and a 1.631 lux output at 1.64 ft.
## Color and lighting options
The T2c uses RGBWW LEDs to produce a wide range of colors in HSI mode or cycle through preset gel emulators for creative effects.
## Why it's useful
The T2c works well indoors or in shade, adding creative fill light to portraits and even doubling as a fun prop like a lightsaber.
## Mounting challenges
The T2c has 3/8-inch mounting threads at either end, which are larger than the 1/4-inch threads on most tripods, requiring adapters for vertical use.
## App control
The Sidus Link smartphone app allows remote adjustment of color, brightness, and lighting effects without needing to walk back to the light.
## Performance in bright light
The T2c struggles in bright daylight but fills shadows effectively in shadier locations like city streets or pubs.
## Price and value
The T2c costs around $199, which is more than cheaper tube lights but justified by its metal build, RGBWW output, and rechargeable battery grip.
## Alternative options
The Aputure MT Pro is a smaller, 7.5W alternative with 36 individually controllable pixels for more sophisticated animated effects.
## Real-world use
The T2c was used to create colorful portraits in Soho, London, with the light tube acting as both a key light and a fun prop for models.
## Why it's fun
The T2c doubles as a lightsaber prop, allowing models to pose creatively while the light provides atmospheric color and key lighting.
## Key limitations
The T2c lacks a 1/4-inch thread on the end, making it difficult to attach to standard tripods without adapters.
## What happens next
Photographers and videomakers can use the T2c for creative lighting effects and as a fun prop in social media content.
## Key takeaway

The Amaran T2c provides accurate white light, creative gel colors, and animated effects for on-location photography and videography.
