## The bird got out
At about 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, an emu escaped a petting zoo in Ramapo, Rockland County, and headed for open road.
## Ramapo police roll up
Officers from the Town of Ramapo Police Department responded and spotted the emu fast, but catching a running bird is another problem entirely.
## Send in the drone
Police launched a Skydio Drone as First Responder to track the emu from the air while officers closed in on foot.

> officers were able to track the emu's movements and safely get it under control
## Sgt. Anton takes the road
One sergeant cut off the bird's route and ended the run. The department could not resist the obvious joke.

> We don't know why the chicken crossed the road, but the emu crossed the road because Sgt. Anton didn't give it an option
## The feathered fugitive returns
The emu was walked back to the petting zoo without incident. No injuries, no citations, and no charges for the bird.

> The emu was safely recovered and returned to where it belonged.
## No promises about next time
Police signed off with the only honest conclusion available: they have no idea whether the emu intends to try this again.

> no word yet on whether it plans to escape again
## Key takeaway

A drone and a sergeant on the ground beat a six-foot bird with a head start, and nobody got hurt.
