## iOS 27 lands with new Siri
Apple released iOS 27 on Monday, days before the iPhone 18 reaches store shelves. The headline feature is the rebuilt Siri assistant Apple first showed in June.
## Beta, opt-in, and a waitlist
Siri AI ships as a beta. You turn it on in the settings app, and even then you may land on a waitlist before Apple grants access.
## Ternus makes his first pitch
New CEO John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook on Sept. 1, framed the iPhone 18 as the ideal AI device because your calendar and texts already live on it.

> It's personal intelligence that's actually personal.
## Small models, borrowed clouds
Apple runs compact in-house models on device, then hands harder queries to Private Cloud Compute, which sits on Google Cloud with Nvidia and Intel chips. Google's Gemini helps train Apple's own models.
## Daily limits, and a fee later
Cloud-backed Siri and Apple Intelligence features get daily usage caps that vary by feature and system demand. Apple says expanded limits will cost money in the future.

> Expanded limits will be available for a fee in the future.
## English first, EU and China later
Siri AI launches in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish next month. Regulation keeps it out of the EU and China at launch.
## Key takeaway

The new Siri is real and shipping, but it arrives gated: opt-in beta, waitlists, daily cloud limits, and no EU or China at launch.
