## Siri has always been limited
Since 2011, Siri could only handle pre-programmed commands like playing songs or setting alarms. It never understood context and often just searched the web instead.
## iOS 27 rebuilds Siri with AI
The new Siri understands your personal context by learning from your emails, messages, and apps. This makes it genuinely useful for the first time.
## Ask Siri about your life
Need a hotel address from your emails? Ask Siri. Can't remember a song a friend recommended? Siri searches your messages. It even finds surprise songs from Taylor Swift concerts on Apple Music.
## Works with third-party apps too
Siri AI integrates with compatible apps like Flighty and Gentler Streak, expanding what you can do beyond Apple's own services.
## Not everyone can use it yet
You need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, or a Mac or iPad with an M1 chip or newer. Siri AI is only in English for now, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish coming in October.
## You may need to join a waiting list
Even with a compatible device, Apple is rolling out Siri AI gradually. You might have to wait to access the new virtual assistant, though it usually doesn't take long.
## Key takeaway

Siri can now search your emails, messages, and apps to answer questions about your life, not just execute pre-programmed commands.
