## A gift that became the first park
On November 6th, 1903, surveyor Francisco Pascasio Moreno donated seven thousand five hundred hectares of Patagonia to the state to preserve as a natural public park.
## From one park to thirty-nine
Those lands became Parque Nacional del Sud in nineteen twenty-two, the first national park in Argentina and Latin America. Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi followed in nineteen thirty-four, as did Parque Nacional Iguazú in Misiones.
## Each park has its own emblem
Argentina now has thirty-nine national parks across different regions. Each has its own distinctive emblem designed to highlight its natural and cultural heritage, featuring animals, plants, landscape formations and cultural resources.
## Symbols tell the story of each place
These emblems are selected by conservation criteria and help people understand the history and biodiversity of each protected area. Knowing these symbols reveals more about what makes each park unique.
## Key takeaway

Argentina marks National Parks Day on November 6th by honouring the emblems that identify each of its thirty-nine protected areas and their natural heritage.
