## Ars started with one way to read
When Ars Technica launched in nineteen ninety-eight, readers accessed it only through web browsers on desktop computers with large monitors or expensive LCD screens.
## Early subscribers got portability options
Around the turn of the millennium, Ars offered subscribers formatted P D F files of articles and full-text R S S feeds, letting them read offline or in their preferred reader.
## Those features still exist in twenty twenty-six
It is twenty twenty-six, and while screens have proliferated in size and portability, Ars Pro subscribers still get P D F s of every article and full-text R S S feeds.

> sometimes the web isn't always the ideal place to read the web
## Ars Pro offers more than portability
Subscribers receive a one hundred percent ad-free experience, access to subscriber-only forums, control over front page layouts, no trackers, and a special user badge for Ars Pro plus plus subscribers.
## Subscriptions fund Ars without ads
A twenty five dollar Ars Pro or fifty dollar Ars Pro plus plus subscription helps Ars rely less on advertising and more on readers who value the reporting and analysis.
## Subscriptions make Ars fit how you read
Ars Pro lets readers save long features for flights, follow every story in R S S, strip away distractions, or spend time with a community arguing about technology for decades.
## Key takeaway

Ars Technica introduced ArsPro subscriptions offering ad-free reading, full-text RSS feeds, and forum access to fund reporting without relying solely on advertising.
