## A rookie waits behind him
Shedeur Sanders is on the Cleveland roster and ready for a turn, which has fans asking how long Deshaun Watson stays the answer at quarterback.
## The contract runs out
Watson is in the last year of the five-year, $230 million deal he signed with Cleveland. After this season, the Browns owe him nothing.
## Berry leaves it open
On ESPN Cleveland, general manager Andrew Berry declined to shut down the idea of extending Watson, keeping every option live.

> I wouldn't take anything off the table
## Not the Houston version
Watson has not looked like the star he was with the Texans. The production in Cleveland has never matched the price tag.
## The Achilles cost him a year
Watson re-ruptured his right Achilles tendon and did not play a single snap last season. Injuries have defined his Browns tenure.
## Watch this season
Whether Cleveland actually locks Watson up is the question hanging over the year, with Sanders and the salary cap both pulling the other way.
## Key takeaway

Cleveland has not decided Watson's future, and Berry's refusal to rule out an extension says the team still sees leverage in keeping options open.
