## Iran signs a restraint call
At a BRICS meeting in New Delhi hosted by Narendra Modi, Iran joined Russia, China and others in a joint statement urging an end to escalating war in the Middle East.

> We express deep concern over the continued escalation of tensions in Middle East/West Asia
## Signed by countries Iran hit
Among the 11 members signing were the UAE, home to a US air base and hit by Iranian drones and missiles, and Saudi Arabia, which shut its East-West pipeline Friday after strikes by Iran-backed Iraqi militias set it on fire.
## Washington turns the screws
The conference landed as the US ramps up economic pressure, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promising an "economic D-Day" to cripple anyone still trading with Tehran.
## Supply chains and Hormuz
The statement also called for protecting civilians, state sovereignty and global supply chains, even as the US and Tehran clash over the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for the world's energy trade.
## We do not want to be bullied
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian attended and hit back at Washington from New Delhi, while the statement raised "serious concerns" about rising global tariffs.

> They want to bully us, and we do not want to be bullied.
## Putin mocks the G7
Putin bragged that BRICS produced over 40% of world GDP versus the G7's 29%. The real G7 number is about 44% of GDP, 28% by purchasing power parity. Xi's visit was his first to India in seven years.

> I don't know why they call it the Group of Seven
## Key takeaway

The BRICS statement is less a peace plan than a show of bloc strength: Iran, Russia and China framing restraint on their own terms while the US tightens the screws.
