## Kreider found a landing spot
Days after mutually terminating his contract with the Anaheim Ducks, the former Rangers forward has picked where he plays next.
## One year in Montreal
The Canadiens signed him for the 2026-27 season at a $2.15 million cap hit, with up to $3 million more available in bonuses.
## He was the villain here
Kreider was once public enemy number one in Montreal. He slid into Carey Price on a breakaway during the 2014 Eastern Conference Final and injured him.

## A decade changes things
Now he arrives as a veteran the Habs hope pushes them a step further, with a role waiting in their top nine forwards.
## The familiar faces
Canadiens president Jeff Gorton was his general manager in New York, and head coach Martin St. Louis was his teammate there.
## A short deal to prove it
One year is a small bet on both sides. How much Kreider still has left is the thing worth watching.
## Key takeaway

Kreider's Montreal move looks strange until you notice who runs the team: his old GM and an old teammate.
