## Batman hung up the cape
Christian Bale stopped playing Batman in 2012. His latest project in Palmdale, California is not a film, it is a place where kids live.
## The village opened Friday
Together California, an 11,000-square-foot foster care village, opened its doors in Palmdale on Friday, ABC 7 reported.
## Built to keep siblings together
The facility exists for one reason: to house brothers and sisters under the same roof when they enter the foster care system.
## Separation is the norm
Staying with a sibling is not guaranteed in foster care. Kids who have already lost their home often lose each other too.
## Bale names the job
He frames the work as turning what these children arrive with into something they can carry forward.

> It's our job to turn their heartbreak and their pain into love and hope and a sense of future.
## Still saving lives
The Batsuit is gone, but the rescue work is real this time, measured in square footage and in siblings who get to stay together.
## Key takeaway

Siblings entering foster care are often separated. Bale's Together California village was built specifically so they don't have to be.
